Motion 108
Lasting Peace in Palestine
“That this Congress recognises the STUC’s longstanding support for a peaceful two-state solution in Palestine and Israel, as well as a policy of justice for Palestine, guided by international law and UN resolutions.
“This Congress notes the current situation in Gaza is not a new occurrence. The ongoing illegal military occupation of Palestine has led to numerous human rights abuses over many decades, with over 25,000 Palestinian deaths in Gaza just since the 7th of October, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
“This Congress acknowledges that neither the killing of Israeli civilians nor the collective punishment of the people of Gaza will do anything to either end the occupation or bring about peace.
“Further, this Congress condemns the rise of both islamophobia and antisemitism across the UK and the globe.
“This Congress notes that a just and permanent peace, consistent with international law, must include the right to collective self-determination of the Palestinian people as well as a resolution on the right to return.
“In response to the above, this Congress:
• Re-affirms the STUC’s solidarity to Palestine, and the commitment for peace and a two-state solution;
• Continues the call for a ceasefire in Gaza
“Further, Congress calls on the General Council to:
• Promote the work of Palestine Solidarity Campaign, including affiliation;
• Commit to continuing the fight against all forms of discrimination; and
• lobby the Scottish and Westminster Governments to find a resolution for peace across Palestine, including in the West Bank.”
