Disabled Workers

The STUC Disabled Workers’ Committee leads on campaigns and policy for disabled trade union members in Scotland. The committee is elected at the annual STUC Disabled Workers’ Conference (November/December).

Employment Injuries

Industrial injuries legislation is outdated and no longer fit for purpose. Scotland has the chance to bring in a new employment injuries benefit and the STUC Disabled Workers Committee supported the Scottish Employment Injuries Advisory Council Bill. After the Bill fell in the Scottish parliament in April 2024, the committee continues to support subsequent work with Employment Injury Assistance.

Disabled Workers and the Pandemic

The Committee is campaigning for Long Covid to be classed as a disability to ensure workers suffering from Long Covid are protected at work.

Reasonable Adjustments

Disabled workers have a right to request reasonable adjustments at work. In 2024 the committee ran a survey of disabled workers in Scotland, and produced a report on the findings and recommendations.
