STUC congratulates Clydeside Action on Asbestos on 25th Anniversary

October 2nd 2009

The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) has repeated calls for justice for asbestos victims as Clydeside Action on Asbestos reaches its 25th anniversary.

Speaking ahead of a dinner to mark the event, STUC Deputy General Secretary Dave Moxham said,

“The dangers of asbestos was known for decades before employers acknowledged that asbestos fibres were lethal, a fact that has now led to the deaths of tens of thousands of workers and, in some cases family members with no record of direct exposure, across the United Kingdom.

"Clydeside Action was the first of the many support organisations in the UK and the work they have done in supporting victims, their families and campaigning for changes in our laws to deliver justice and fair compensation for Scottish people who have been poisoned by exposure to asbestos.

"The STUC would like to acknowledge the work of Clydeside Action on Asbestos and its role at the forefront of the asbestos support group movement."
