This Saturday the 16th of October, trade unions and campaigners will join hundreds of concerned Glasgow residents in protest against the closure of vital cultural and sport facilities.
Coordinated by Glasgow Against Closures, a coalition of campaigning groups, trade unions and community members, the march will begin at the Buchanan Galleries steps and end at the People’s Palace, one of the iconic Glasgow buildings under threat.
Roz Foyer, STUC General Secretary, said:
“Glasgow City Council needs to answer to the public. This situation has been dragging on for months, with workers and communities left in limbo, not knowing what is going to happen to their vital services.
“Libraries, museums and sports facilities are crucial for any thriving community. These venues and services belong to the people of Glasgow, and the proposed closures must be stopped. Glasgow Life must be brought back in-house as a democratic council service that is accountable to the public.
“The STUC extends its full solidarity to the workers and communities affected.”
Notes The rally will meet at 12.30pm at the Buchanan Galleries steps and will march to Glasgow Green with a stop off at GOMA en route at 1pm. For more information, click here.
