Black Workers Committee Statement on the US Election

November 10th 2020

STUC Black Workers Committee Chair, Usman Ali, stated:

"Congratulations to President Elect Biden and Vice President Elect Harris on their historic election. I am delighted that Kamala Harris will become the first women, the first women of African American and South Asian heritage to serve as the Vice President of the United States. Both Joe Biden and Kamala have shown us all what hard work, resilience, and perseverance can achieve.

"The past four years has seen chaos and division spread across the United States and the World. There is a lot of work to do to unite people of all faiths, creeds, and backgrounds to build a more just and peaceful world for us all and future generations.

"While Vice President Elect Harris has broken the race ceiling in the United States tonight, there is much more work to be done here in Scotland and Britain to ensure we break the race ceiling especially in all parts of Scotland’s public, private and third sectors employment."
