STUC says Scotland is entering its most crucial period in the recovery from COVID lockdown
Massive increase in customer facing re-opening from 13th July could be a make or break moment in controlling the virus
Responding to the First Minister’s Phase 3 announcements STUC General Secretary Roz Foyer said:
“The re-opening of indoor hospitality, shopping centres and hairdressers is a major moment and one that will define our ability to continue to control the virus and plot a sustainable economic recovery. We know that workplaces have been at the centre of outbreaks leading to spikes in infections and this remains an ever-present risk.
“We are calling on all employers to get their risks assessments completed and consult with all of their staff. We can provide a union health and safety rep to support any workplace that wants to get this right.
“We remain concerned at the exceptions allowing possible exceptions from the 2-metre rule. Nowhere is it more important that we get the risk assessments right.
“We also urge employers as they re-open to show support and understanding for workers requiring to self-isolate and for those with additional caring responsibilities due to the virus.”
